Parish Council

The council comprises nine volunteer councillors. Elections are held every four years and new nominations are always welcome. Within the Parish Council are many different committees on which councillors sit.

Societies and Groups

Cawood Garth group. The Castle Garth was purchased by the Parish Council for the village in 1986.  The site is archaeologically and historically of great importance and is registered with English Heritage as an Ancient Monument and a site of scientific interest for fauna and flora. The group has improved access to the site, holds digs and find days for villagers and is involved with the day to day running of this magnificent open space in the heart of the village. The group has done a lot of work on the Garth including access across it. To have a look at the video of the bridge opening click here.

Cawood Allotment Society. The group was formed after several keen gardeners joined together to form a society. A local farmer was approached and a rental agreement was put in place. Now nearly 40 allotments are a hive of activity and gardeners have enjoyed a successful first year.There is one plot vacant as of April 1st 2010. Junior Football: If you reckon that there is a future footballing star in the family please get in touch with Cawood and Wistow Junior Football Club as they are looking for new players. Cawood in Bloom organises the buying and planting of flowers to make our village look wonderful. They enter the village in local competition and have gained silver awrds in recent years. The group also runs a 'Giant Sunflower' growing competition, won last year by Mark Blundell.

Cawood Players is an amateur dramatic group specialising in the annual panto. Contact Suzanne on (01757) 269425

Rainbows.A new group within the Scouting and Guiding movement has started in the village. Rainbows is for girls between 5 and 7 years old before they progress to Brownies. New members will be welcome to join the Friday night gathering within the village. Cawood WI meets in the Old Boys' School on the 2nd Thursday in the month at 7:30pm.
